Our standards

How We Report

Accuracy over volume. Consistency over growth. Here is exactly how we decide what to publish, how we check it, and what we do when we get it wrong.

01

Accuracy before speed

We verify facts before we publish. If we can’t confirm something, we don’t report it as fact. Being right matters more than being first.

02

Fair to every side

We contact the people and organizations a story is about and give them a real chance to respond before publication.

03

No sensationalism

Hard-hitting doesn’t mean loud. Our headlines say what the story shows, nothing more.

04

A bias check on every story

Before an editor signs off, each story gets a neutrality review, including an AI-assisted check for loaded language and missing perspectives. People make the final call.

05

Corrections in the open

When we get something wrong, we fix it, note the correction at the top of the story, and say what changed.

06

Advertisers don’t touch the news

Ads are clearly labeled and kept separate from stories. Advertisers never see or influence coverage before it runs.

07

Civil conversation

Comments are open to subscribers. Comments with offensive, hateful or racist language are automatically held for review and are not published.

Subscriber-funded

Local news that answers to readers first.

Subscribers pay for most of our reporting, and that keeps it independent. Subscribers also read with fewer ads.
